Artist: Duncan Reid

Duncan Reid’s work is inspired by an unconventional training. Reid’s parents were both artists who met at The Rhode Island School of Design, and he grew up around art and antiques. Though most of his art education comes from this, he has studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. He has also been a graphic artist for more than 30 years, a profession that adds to the variety of techniques in his toolkit.

Reid paints in a variety of mediums on hand assembled, hard panels rather than canvas. He often employs aging or distressing effects to his water-based media. He tends to wrap the work around the edge of the panel treating the paintings as objects not simply images. He also produces work in the form of books and printed material. He has maintained a studio at The Norwood Space Center since 2018.
